If implemented, the upgrade will see Solana\u2019s transaction latency drop from 12 seconds to 150ms.<\/p>\n<p>Alpenglow seeks to achieve this via two consensus aspects \u2013 Votor and Rotor. <\/p>\n<p>These will replace the current Proof-of-History and Tower Byzantine Fault Tolerance, or TowerBFT. On the Solana network, Proof-of-History allows for timestamping of transactions to ensure blockchain security and efficiency, while TowerBFT powers the validator process.<\/p>\n<p>The Alpenglow upgrade will activate Votor to slash transaction finality times, replacing TowerBFT.
