On Monday, August 4, Pantera Capital led a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.therobotreport.com\/openmind-raises-20m-connect-intelligent-machines\/\" target=\"_blank\">$20 million funding round<\/a> in OpenMind. Other investors include Coinbase Ventures, DCG, Ribbit, Lightspeed Faction, Pebblebed, Topology, among others. <\/p>\n<p>The firm, whose CEO is Stanford professor Jan Liphardt, is working on FABRIC, creating a decentralized operating system for robots.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIf AI is the brain and robotics is the body, coordination is the nervous system,\u201d Liphardt said. \u201cWithout it, there\u2019s no intelligence \u2013 just motion. We\u2019re building the system that lets machines reason, act, and evolve together.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>    <!-- .cn-block-related-link --><\/p>\n<p>Described as \u201cLinux on Ethereum,\u201d the operating system will function as a coordination layer for smart machines. It will also leverage blockchain networks to remain decentralized, enabling machines from multiple producers to work together.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s robots are trapped in single-vendor ecosystems that limit collaboration and can\u2019t adapt to real-world complexity,\u201d said Liphardt.\u00a0\u201cOpenMind\u00a0is the connective tissue the robotics industry has been missing.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>    <!-- .cn-block-related-link --><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Blockchain could be key to robotics development<\/h2>\n<p>According to Nihal Maunder, partner at Pantera Capital, this approach \u201cfeels obvious in hindsight.\u201d He explained that an open network is the key to moving the robotics industry forward.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cOpenMind\u00a0is doing for robotics what Linux and Ethereum did for software,\u201d Maunder stated. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Linux is an open-source operating system powering almost all the servers that run the Internet. Thanks to its modular and open-source nature, any developer can adapt it to their exact needs.<\/p>\n<p>This mirrors how smart contracts work on blockchains like Ethereum.
