At the same time, the S&amp;P 500 was up 0.26%, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq rose 0.32%, boosted by strong Alphabet earnings.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><picture decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14399656\"><source type=\"image\/webp\" ><\/source><\/p>\n<\/picture><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Dow Jones Industrial Average heatmap | Source: <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tipranks.com\/index\/dow-jones\/heatmap\" target=\"_blank\">TipRanks<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Shares of Alphabet, Google\u2019s parent company, <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/tradersunion.com\/news\/financial-news\/show\/382744-alphabet-stock-surges\/\" target=\"_blank\">were up 1.38%<\/a> after the company reported strong quarterly results. The company reported earnings per share at $2.31, up from $1.89 in the same quarter of last year, and beating the $2.18 estimate. Strong Google Cloud revenue, at $13.6 billion, was the biggest surprise in Q2. <\/p>\n<p>Google also announced that it would raise its capital expenditures by $10 million to meet customer demand for cloud computing. Strong earnings and new investments are good news for Meta and Microsoft, which are set to post earnings on Friday. <\/p>\n<p>    <!-- .cn-block-related-link --><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tesla, IBM sink as earnings fail to impress<\/h2>\n<p>IBM\u2019s stock <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/news\/gurufocus:4edf28873094b:0-ibm-q2-earnings-smash-expectations-but-here-s-why-the-stock-sank\/\" target=\"_blank\">sank 8%<\/a> despite its earnings beating expectations. The firm reported $2.80 earnings per share for Q2, beating consensus expectations of $2.65. The firm\u2019s revenue, at $17 billion, also beat expectations, as did its operating margin. <\/p>\n<p>Still, investors expected more from the tech giant. Critically, the company also underperformed in one critical metric, which is software revenue. This slower-than-expected growth in a high-margin business spooked investors, leading to the stock\u2019s decline. <\/p>\n<p>    <!-- .cn-block-related-link --><\/p>\n<p>Another big loser was Tesla, whose <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/tesla-tsla-stock-q2-earnings-report-call-2025-7-2025-7\" target=\"_blank\">stock plunged 9%<\/a> on a major earnings miss and Musk\u2019s warnings. In the second quarter, EV maker\u2019s revenues were down 12% year over year to $22.5 billion, missing consensus expectations of $22.64 billion. Earnings were also at 40 cents per share, compared to the estimated 42 cents. <\/p>\n<p>At the same time, Musk warned that the company could have \u201ca few rough quarters\u201d ahead.
