Polymarket told the FT it maintains \u201ca close, active relationship with JPMorgan across multiple entities, operational integrations and material handling of customer fund flows.\u201d JPMorgan declined to comment. The company\u2019s description of the remaining relationship has not been independently detailed publicly.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">JPMorgan debanked Polymarket over regulatory concerns <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/VbdoFOrPUt\">https:\/\/t.co\/VbdoFOrPUt<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Financial Times (@FT) <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/FT\/status\/2088122786862579742?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 14, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>    <!-- .cn-block-related-link --><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>JPMorgan\u2019s exit came during Polymarket\u2019s U.S. transition<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The timing matters because Polymarket was still rebuilding its U.S. regulatory position. The CFTC <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cftc.gov\/PressRoom\/PressReleases\/8478-22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">order<\/a> in January 2022 required Blockratize, the company behind Polymarket, to pay a $1.4 million civil penalty and wind down markets that did not comply with federal derivatives law.<\/p>\n<p>By October 2025, the company had acquired QCX and QC Clearing and secured a CFTC staff <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cftc.gov\/csl\/25-28\/download\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">letter<\/a> granting narrow no action relief on certain reporting and recordkeeping requirements. The CFTC <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cftc.gov\/IndustryOversight\/IndustryFilings\/TradingOrganizations\/49571\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">registry<\/a> currently lists QCX LLC, doing business as Polymarket US, as a designated contract market. The Commission amended its designation in November to permit futures commission merchant intermediation.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Polymarket still faces regulatory and legal scrutiny<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The regulatory picture remains unsettled. The FT reported in June that the CFTC had opened another investigation into Polymarket, citing a person familiar with the matter. The regulator had not publicly confirmed the investigation, and both the CFTC and Polymarket declined to comment on its focus.<\/p>\n<p>XState and local scrutiny has also continued. In related coverage, Polymarket US and Kalshi won preliminary relief against Minnesota\u2019s prediction market ban on July 27. The federal court stressed that its preliminary injunction was not a final determination on the merits. On Aug. 12, the New York City Council also announced an <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/council.nyc.gov\/press\/2026\/08\/12\/3215\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">inquiry<\/a> into prediction market marketing and requested information from Polymarket and three other platforms.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>JPMorgan kept other ties despite closing the account<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The FT reported that JPMorgan invited Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan to speak at a private banking conference in Miami in February. The bank is also reportedly interested in an underwriting role if Polymarket eventually pursues an initial public offering. No public IPO filing has been announced.<\/p>\n<p>The continuing relationship makes the episode more complex than a complete corporate break. It also comes during a wider U.S. debate over debanking. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency said in its December <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.occ.gov\/news-issuances\/news-releases\/2025\/nr-occ-2025-123.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">review<\/a> that it examined nine large national banks, including JPMorgan, and found policies at each that restricted some lawful industries or subjected them to escalated reviews. The OCC said its broader work remains ongoing.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Funding talks could value Polymarket above $20 billion<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Polymarket is separately in early talks to raise roughly $1 billion at a valuation above $20 billion, Reuters <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/polymarket-seeks-over-20-billion-valuation-funding-round-bloomberg-news-reports-2026-08-04\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">reported<\/a> on Aug. 4, citing Bloomberg. Reuters said it could not independently verify the report, while Polymarket did not respond to its request for comment. The figures therefore remain reported targets rather than a completed financing.<\/p>\n<p>As crypto.news previously reported, the platform\u2019s reported $1 billion fundraising talks could value it above $20 billion. ICE, the New York Stock Exchange parent, initially invested $1 billion in October 2025 and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ir.theice.com\/press\/news-details\/2026\/Intercontinental-Exchange-Announces-New-600-Million-Investment-in-Polymarket\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">announced<\/a> another $600 million direct investment on March 27, 2026.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What happens next for Polymarket<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Polymarket\u2019s immediate regulatory path will depend partly on the reported CFTC investigation and continuing state cases. The Minnesota injunction currently protects its federally regulated exchange from that state\u2019s ban, but the litigation over federal derivatives authority and state gambling powers has not reached a final ruling.<\/p>\n<p>Its capital markets plans are less certain. JPMorgan\u2019s reported interest in future underwriting does not establish that an IPO will happen, and no public registration statement has been identified. The proposed $1 billion fundraising round also remains under discussion.
