Today marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of crypto @solana,\u201d alongside a wallet address used to bait users into buying.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter is-resized\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Screenshot of a post shared during the a16z X account hack | Source: <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/epykur_xyz\/status\/1935472241610817690?s=46\" target=\"_blank\">X<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Several other posts pushed fake giveaways and promises of free tokens, including one claiming a $5 million airdrop, all designed to lure unsuspecting users into engaging with the compromised content. On-chain data revealed that the fraudulent token briefly pumped in value following the posts, before crashing nearly 90% in a typical pump-and-dump pattern.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- .cn-block-related-link --><\/p>\n<p>a16z regained control of the account shortly after and swiftly deleted the fraudulent content. In a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/a16z\/status\/1935467524042407955\" target=\"_blank\">statement<\/a>, the firm confirmed the breach was limited to its X account and reassured users that none of the promotions came from them.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cEarlier today, our X account was briefly compromised. During that time, the account promoted a token and other fake content\u2014 none of which originated from a16z. Apologies for any confusion caused by the clowns who temporarily took over our account,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The firm\u2019s response received mixed reactions from followers, with many raising concerns about the account\u2019s security. Some users claimed to have fallen victim to the scheme and called on the firm to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/cbdrop2024\/status\/1935468269789720704?s=46\" target=\"_blank\">issue refunds<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time an a16z-affiliated account has been targeted. Back in February, the personal X account of a16z founder Chris Dixon (Shaw) was similarly <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/WuBlockchain\/status\/1891298835919740984\" target=\"_blank\">compromised<\/a> and used to promote a fake project.
