Bloomberg <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-05-07\/binance-says-treasury-sent-letter-over-monitorship-of-exchange\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">reported<\/a> that Treasury sought employee interviews and records tied to possible sanctions violations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Information also reported that Treasury <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theinformation.com\/articles\/treasury-department-demands-binance-compliance-iran-crypto-reports?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">demanded<\/a> Binance comply with the monitoring program imposed after its 2023 deal with U.S. authorities. That agreement followed anti-money laundering and sanctions cases that ended with large penalties and long-term oversight.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- .cn-block-related-link --><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Binance says it is cooperating<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Binance said it remains engaged with the monitor and U.S. agencies. The exchange said, \u201cWe welcome constructive feedback from the Treasury\u201d and added that it is giving the monitor \u201cfull cooperation and transparency.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The comments came after lawmakers raised questions about whether Binance had met the terms of its settlement. A February Senate <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vanhollen.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/cvh_bessent_bondi_ltr_binance.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">letter<\/a> asked Treasury and the DOJ to review Binance\u2019s sanctions controls after reports tied the exchange to Iran-linked activity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Treasury\u2019s 2023 settlement required Binance to pay billions in penalties and accept monitoring. FinCEN <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fincen.gov\/news\/news-releases\/fincen-announces-largest-settlement-us-treasury-department-history-virtual-asset\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">said<\/a> its order imposed a five-year monitorship and required Binance to complete major compliance changes, including a full exit from the U.S. market.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Treasury said the settlement gave officials access to Binance books, records, and systems for five years through a monitor. It also <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/home.treasury.gov\/news\/press-releases\/jy1925\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">warned<\/a> that failure to meet the obligations could expose Binance to more penalties, including a suspended $150 million penalty.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Iran-linked crypto claims widen the story<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Related crypto.news coverage said internal data reviewed by the Financial Times showed 13 suspicious Binance accounts handled $1.7 billion in crypto, including about $144 million after the 2023 settlement. The report also said some wallets had links to funds later frozen over alleged Iran-backed activity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This comes as U.S. enforcement around Iran-linked crypto flows grows. Crypto.news recently reported that the U.S. seized nearly $500 million in Iranian crypto assets, above a previously reported $344 million USDT freeze tied to Iran.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Binance\u2019s monitoring issue also follows earlier reports that the exchange had sought an early end to a DOJ-appointed monitor.
