{"id":24109,"date":"2026-03-20T05:40:19","date_gmt":"2026-03-20T05:40:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bitunikey.com\/news\/fbi-warns-of-tron-based-scam-tokens-posing-as-law-enforcement\/"},"modified":"2026-03-20T05:40:24","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T05:40:24","slug":"fbi-warns-of-tron-based-scam-tokens-posing-as-law-enforcement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bitunikey.com\/news\/fbi-warns-of-tron-based-scam-tokens-posing-as-law-enforcement\/","title":{"rendered":"FBI warns of Tron-based scam tokens posing as law enforcement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"post-detail__content blocks\">\n<p>The FBI has issued a warning about a fake token on the Tron blockchain that is impersonating the agency to trick users in a crypto phishing scam.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cn-block-summary-block_faf6dd8e51ecf2edc7e33966c53c9767\" class=\"cn-block-summary\">\n<div class=\"cn-block-summary__nav tabs\">\n        <span class=\"tabs__item is-selected\">Summary<\/span>\n    <\/div>\n<div class=\"cn-block-summary__content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>FBI warns of fake Tron tokens impersonating the agency and claiming wallets are under investigation.<\/li>\n<li>Users are directed to fraudulent websites demanding AML verification to avoid asset freezes.<\/li>\n<li>Token has reached at least 728 wallets, with some holding over $1 million in USDT.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- .cn-block-summary --><\/p>\n<p>FBI\u2019s New York Field Office issued a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NewYorkFBI\/status\/2034676756469154236?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">message<\/a> on Thursday warning that scammers were sending tokens to users to siphon personal information under the pretence that the recipient\u2019s wallet was \u201cunder investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recipients of the token are redirected to a website where they are asked to complete an anti money laundering verification online \u201cto avoid a total block on your assets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- .cn-block-related-link --><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFBI New York encourages users of the Tron blockchain network to exercise caution if they encounter a token purported to be from the FBI,\u201d the agency said, advising users not to provide \u201cany identifying information to any website associated with such [a] token.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The token also comes with warnings that a user could face \u201ca total block\u201d on their assets if they fail to clear the verification process.<\/p>\n<p>Once on the malicious website, victims are told that \u201ccurrent sanctions\u201d can be avoided if users immediately comply with the request.<\/p>\n<p>Similar tactics are common across other phishing scams where bad actors prey on urgency to extract sensitive information.<\/p>\n<p>Scammers may be targeting users who are concerned about potential regulatory scrutiny and fear enforcement action.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/tronscan.org\/#\/token20\/TKYWf5q5dzdeuCg38P8fU3wsGkHo6QL8aF\/code\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">data<\/a> from Tronscan, the token was sent to at least 728 digital wallets, and many of these wallets held more than $1 million in USDT.<\/p>\n<p>Those who have already shared information have been urged to file a report with the FBI\u2019s Internet Crime Complaint Center.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FBI developed their own crypto to bust scammers<\/h2>\n<p>While the FBI has confirmed that it has no involvement with the fake token, in the past, the agency developed a token to take down a market manipulation network.<\/p>\n<p>As previously reported by crypto.news, the FBI launched NexFundAI during a sting called \u201cOperation Token Mirrors.\u201d The token was used to expose a wash trading ring involved in artificially inflating prices.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, phishing remains a consistent threat and has become one of the leading attack vectors in recent years, resulting in multi-million dollar losses across incidents.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- .cn-block-related-link --><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The FBI has issued a warning about a fake token on the Tron blockchain that is impersonating the agency to trick users in a crypto phishing scam.
