{"id":24049,"date":"2026-03-19T06:12:26","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T06:12:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bitunikey.com\/news\/nasdaq-wins-sec-approval-to-trial-tokenized-stock-trading\/"},"modified":"2026-03-19T06:12:34","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T06:12:34","slug":"nasdaq-wins-sec-approval-to-trial-tokenized-stock-trading","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bitunikey.com\/news\/nasdaq-wins-sec-approval-to-trial-tokenized-stock-trading\/","title":{"rendered":"Nasdaq wins SEC approval to trial tokenized stock trading"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"post-detail__content blocks\">\n<p>Nasdaq has received approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to proceed with its tokenized equities pilot.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cn-block-summary-block_839512b38e50604a969bdec6a1a48a6b\" class=\"cn-block-summary\">\n<div class=\"cn-block-summary__nav tabs\">\n        <span class=\"tabs__item is-selected\">Summary<\/span>\n    <\/div>\n<div class=\"cn-block-summary__content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nasdaq received SEC approval to launch a pilot allowing select participants to trade and settle equities in tokenized form alongside traditional shares.<\/li>\n<li>The pilot is limited to securities within the Russell 1000 and major index linked ETFs, with tokenized shares carrying the same rights and pricing as standard equities.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- .cn-block-summary --><\/p>\n<p>According to the SEC\u2019s approval <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/files\/rules\/sro\/nasdaq\/2026\/34-105047.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">filing<\/a>, Nasdaq can now move ahead with \u201celigible participants\u201d choosing to trade securities in either traditional or tokenized form on the same platform.<\/p>\n<p>Tokenization involves representing real-world assets as digital tokens on blockchain infrastructure, allowing for more efficient settlement and extended market functionality.<\/p>\n<p>Per previous coverage, Nasdaq first filed its proposal in September to enable trading of high-volume stocks in either a traditional format or as tokenized versions within the same exchange environment.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- .cn-block-related-link --><\/p>\n<p>At the time, CEO Tal Cohen said the model can shorten settlement cycles and improve processes such as proxy voting, while maintaining investor protections.<\/p>\n<p>The SEC has limited the pilot to securities in the Russell 1000 Index, which tracks the largest publicly traded companies in the U.S., along with exchange-traded funds tracking the S&amp;P 500 and Nasdaq 100 indices.<\/p>\n<p>According to the filing, there were concerns around market surveillance and potential pricing discrepancies during the review process. The commission said these were addressed through amendments that clarified safeguards.<\/p>\n<p>Nasdaq has also partnered with crypto exchange Kraken, along with tokenization platform Backed, to build infrastructure that would allow public companies to create and issue tokenized shares.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday\u2019s approval follows growing demand for tokenized assets from both crypto firms and traditional financial institutions seeking to modernize market infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>The SEC has also authorized the DTCC to pilot tokenization initiatives, while the New York Stock Exchange\u2019s parent company Intercontinental Exchange has backed a project with OKX to launch tokenized stocks.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- .cn-block-related-link --><\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nasdaq has received approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to proceed with its tokenized equities pilot.
