{"id":16906,"date":"2025-11-28T22:08:01","date_gmt":"2025-11-28T22:08:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bitunikey.com\/news\/nasdaq-wants-to-let-bitcoin-options-run-wild\/"},"modified":"2025-11-28T22:08:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-28T22:08:07","slug":"nasdaq-wants-to-let-bitcoin-options-run-wild","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bitunikey.com\/news\/nasdaq-wants-to-let-bitcoin-options-run-wild\/","title":{"rendered":"Nasdaq wants to let Bitcoin options run wild"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"post-detail__content blocks\">\n<p class=\"is-style-lead\">Nasdaq\u2019s International Securities Exchange (ISE) has decided that Bitcoin options are hot right now.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cn-block-summary-block_18f35989fec82fb4bd2a081d7e1ac30a\" class=\"cn-block-summary\">\n<div class=\"cn-block-summary__nav tabs\">\n        <span class=\"tabs__item is-selected\">Summary<\/span>\n    <\/div>\n<div class=\"cn-block-summary__content\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nasdaq ISE is seeking to raise the trading cap for BlackRock\u2019s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) options from 250,000 to 1 million contracts.<\/li>\n<li>Deribit \u2014 still the dominant crypto-options exchange \u2014 reached a record ~$50.27B in BTC options OI with 453,820 active contracts and nearly doubled its 2024 trading volume.<\/li>\n<li>The SEC is reviewing the cap-increase request as demand keeps accelerating.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- .cn-block-summary --><\/p>\n<p>According to a regulatory <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2025\/11\/26\/2025-21123\/self-regulatory-organizations-nasdaq-ise-llc-notice-of-filing-of-proposed-rule-change-to-amend-the\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">filing<\/a>, the ISE wants to raise the trading limit for BlackRock\u2019s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) from a modest 250,000 contracts to a cool 1 million. <\/p>\n<p>This is Nasdaq\u2019s second request for a bigger trading cap, after they bumped the limit by a factor of 10 just earlier this year. <\/p>\n<p>Nasdaq ISE argues the limit increase is necessary to address growing institutional demand for IBIT options and to facilitate legitimate trading strategies.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>IBIT vs. Deribit<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>At its peak in October, IBIT\u2019s options open interest hit a jaw-dropping $50 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Compare that to Deribit. As of late 2025, the world\u2019s leading crypto\u2011options exchange saw its Bitcoin (BTC) options open interest <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/markets\/2025\/10\/23\/bitcoin-options-open-interest-surges-to-record-usd50b-on-deribit-as-traders-actively-hedge-downside-risks?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">hit<\/a> a new record of about $50.27\u202fbillion, with roughly 453,820 active BTC contracts.<\/p>\n<p>In 2024, Deribit nearly doubled its trading volume \u2014 surging 95% to more than $1.185 trillion \u2014 with options alone accounting for roughly <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/markets\/2025\/01\/22\/deribits-crypto-trading-volume-nearly-doubled-to-over-1-t-in-2024?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">$743 billion<\/a> of that activity.<\/p>\n<p>Even as regulated alternatives such as the options tied to IBIT gain traction, Deribit continues to claim a dominant share of global BTC\u2011options open interest. However, IBIT options now account for nearly all, or 98%, of the Bitcoin ETF options trading, according <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-11-27\/nasdaq-seeks-to-boost-trading-cap-for-options-on-top-bitcoin-etf?srnd=phx-crypto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">to<\/a> Bloomberg News.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is still considering the request, but at this rate, it might as well just let Bitcoin go full throttle.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- .cn-block-related-link --><\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nasdaq\u2019s International Securities Exchange (ISE) has decided that Bitcoin options are hot right now.
