On Monday, November 24, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson called the incident an intentional exploit by a known individual inside the ecosystem.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Cardano attacker doxed himself, left forensics evidence, had a history of malicious intent, breaking many laws in the process on this public infrastructure hack.  <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Cardano?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">#Cardano<\/a>  <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IOHK_Charles?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">@IOHK_Charles<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZZj2RHEJik\">pic.twitter.com\/ZZj2RHEJik<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 St\u20b3ke with Pride \ud83c\udf08 SPO &amp; DRep (@StakeWithPride) <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StakeWithPride\/status\/1992693245927981556?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">November 23, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Hoskinson claimed that the malformed transaction that triggered a temporary fork was the work of a former stake pool operator (SPO) and early contributor. <\/p>\n<p>He says the person used knowledge from Cardano\u2019s (ADA) testnet days to craft a transaction that would disrupt block production and exploit validation inconsistencies across node versions.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIt was a targeted attack. Premeditated. It probably took several hours to figure out how to do it\u2026 It was a malicious act,\u201d Hoskinson said. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>    <!-- .cn-block-related-link --><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cardano attack\u2014personal?<\/h2>\n<p>The incident, which occurred on November 21, involved a malformed delegation transaction. This caused a temporary split, with different Cardano node versions validating transactions differently. <\/p>\n<p>According to Hoskinson, this was a \u201cdevastating attack,\u201d which could have caused billions in damage on a bigger network.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cSo if you go disrupt an electric grid or the internet or you do a cyberattack on\u2026 that\u2019s a severe crime.\u201d And so this is a public infrastructure that\u2019s in more than 100 countries with millions of users around the world, and people\u2019s livelihoods are connected to this,\u201d Hoskinson stated. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The attack targeted Hoskinson\u2019s own pool, leading the founder to suggest the intent was personal.
