Following Zhao\u2019s unexpected pardon by U.S. President Donald Trump, prominent Democrat politicians are doubling down on their attacks.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, November 2, Warren\u2019s legal team dismissed Zhao\u2019s defamation claim. The <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/punchbowl.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025.11.02_Response_Re_Changpeng_Zhao.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">response<\/a> comes after CZ\u2019s lawyers sent a demand letter on October 28, objecting to Warren\u2019s X post about his pardon. \u201cCZ pleaded guilty to a criminal money laundering charge and was sentenced to prison,\u201d Warren stated in the post.<\/p>\n<p>Warren has doubled down on her post, stating that Zhao pleaded guilty to money laundering. The court sentenced him to prison, after which Trump pardoned him. As the statements are true, Warren\u2019s lawyers point out, they cannot be defamatory. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p> \u201cSenator Warren\u2019s post is true in all respects and therefore cannot be defamatory,\u201d wrote Elias Law Group, the firm representing Warren. \u201cAll of this is public record, and is plainly what Senator Warren\u2019s X post concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>    <!-- .cn-block-related-link --><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Trump claims he doesn\u2019t know who CZ is<\/h2>\n<p>Zhao pleaded guilty on November 21, 2023, to charges that involved a failure to maintain an effective anti-money laundering program as the CEO of Binance. Binance was also forced to pay $4.3 billion to U.S. authorities, while CZ had to step down as CEO. <\/p>\n<p>Since the legal exchange, Trump addressed his pardon of Zhao. He claimed that he did not know who he was, but was told by others that CZ was targeted during a \u201cwitch hunt\u201d under the Biden administration.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s claims raised eyebrows due to Binance\u2019s involvement with his crypto businesses. Notably, according to the WSJ, Binance engineers built the core infrastructure for World Liberty Financial\u2019s USD1 stablecoin and helped create demand for it.
