On Monday, November 3, OpenAI signed a seven-year, $38 billion agreement with Amazon Web Services. The deal gives OpenAI access to AWS\u2019s massive compute capacity. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cScaling frontier AI requires massive, reliable compute,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aboutamazon.com\/news\/aws\/aws-open-ai-workloads-compute-infrastructure\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">said<\/a> OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman. \u201cOur partnership with AWS strengthens the broad compute ecosystem that will power this next era and bring advanced AI to everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>OpenAI will have access to thousands of Nvidia GPUs. These include the GB200 and GB300 series Amazon EC2 UltraServers, optimized for AI compute. According to Amazon, this infrastructure can scale to tens of millions of CPUs, both for training and running the models. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cAs OpenAI continues to push the boundaries of what\u2019s possible, AWS\u2019s best-in-class infrastructure will serve as a backbone for their AI ambitions,\u201d said Matt Garman, CEO of AWS. \u201cThe breadth and immediate availability of optimized compute demonstrates why AWS is uniquely positioned to support OpenAI\u2019s vast AI workloads.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>    <!-- .cn-block-related-link --><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">OpenAI deals raise questions about an AI bubble <\/h2>\n<p>The deal is part of OpenAI\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/sustainability\/land-use-biodiversity\/altman-touts-trillion-dollar-ai-vision-openai-restructures-chase-scale-2025-10-29\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">$1.4\u202ftrillion investment<\/a> to expand its infrastructure capacity. According to CEO Sam Altman, the firm plans to develop 30\u202fgigawatts of power capacity. For comparison, a single nuclear power plant has about <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/ne\/articles\/infographic-how-much-power-does-nuclear-reactor-produce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">1 gigawatt<\/a> in capacity, while 30 gigawatts could power <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.carboncollective.co\/sustainable-investing\/gigawatt-gw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">26 million homes<\/a> for a year.<\/p>\n<p>OpenAI\u2019s previous deals have raised questions about a potential <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.outlookbusiness.com\/explainers\/inside-the-ai-bubble-how-openai-nvidia-are-weaving-a-web-of-circular-deals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">AI bubble<\/a>.
