{"id":117,"date":"2025-05-20T06:58:03","date_gmt":"2025-05-20T06:58:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bitunikey.com\/news\/stocks-flat-as-moodys-downgrades-u-s-credit-sp-500-rally-stalls\/"},"modified":"2025-05-20T06:58:04","modified_gmt":"2025-05-20T06:58:04","slug":"stocks-flat-as-moodys-downgrades-u-s-credit-sp-500-rally-stalls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bitunikey.com\/news\/stocks-flat-as-moodys-downgrades-u-s-credit-sp-500-rally-stalls\/","title":{"rendered":"Stocks flat as Moody\u2019s downgrades U.S. credit, S&amp;P 500 rally stalls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"post-detail__content blocks\">\n<p class=\"is-style-lead\">U.S. stocks were little changed Monday as investors reacted to Moody\u2019s Ratings stripping the U.S. of its last triple-A credit grade and lawmakers advancing a tax bill expected to add significantly to federal deficits.<\/p>\n<p>The S&amp;P 500, coming off a five-day winning streak, rose slightly, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.01%.\u00a0The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.3%, with support from a rebound in UnitedHealth Group shares.<\/p>\n<p>Moody\u2019s late Friday <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/business\/markets\/markets-closing-numbers-monday-moodys-us-credit-downgrade-rcna207730\" target=\"_blank\">downgraded<\/a> U.S. debt to AA1, citing \u201cpersistent, large fiscal deficits\u201d and higher interest costs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The move came as the House Budget Committee approved a tax-and-spending plan from President Trump that would extend cuts and boost spending, raising deficit projections.<\/p>\n<p>The 10-year Treasury yield briefly spiked to 4.56%, its highest level in over a month, before pulling back to 4.46%. Yields on 30-year Treasurys touched 5% before settling near 4.95%. The dollar index fell 0.7%, while gold jumped 1.5% to $3,235 an ounce.<\/p>\n<p>Tech stocks, which led recent gains, traded mixed. Tesla dropped 2% following last week\u2019s 17% rally. Apple slipped 1.5%, while Nvidia, Alphabet, and Meta also declined. Microsoft and Amazon edged higher.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- .cn-block-related-link --><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bitcoin is surging\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Bitcoin (BTC) surged to $105,400, lifting shares of Strategy 3%. Palantir, AMD, and Super Micro Computer each fell over 2%.<\/p>\n<p>JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/finance\/jamie-dimon-says-tariffs-might-inflict-more-economic-pain-than-investors-realize-ab9e8a67\" target=\"_blank\">warned<\/a> that the full economic impact of tariffs had yet to be felt, while Fed officials signaled no immediate changes to interest rates amid ongoing uncertainty.<\/p>\n<p>Global markets were mixed. European stocks rose slightly, while Asia saw losses.
