On Tuesday, May 27, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed to 42,243\u2014up 640 points or 1.54%. The S&amp;P 500 rose to 5,911, gaining 109 points or 1.88%, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite advanced to 19,177, up 440.52 points or 2.35%.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><picture decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14383500\"><source type=\"image\/webp\" ><\/source><\/p>\n<\/picture><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Dow Jones Industrial Average heatmap | Source: <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tipranks.com\/index\/dow-jones\/heatmap\" target=\"_blank\">TipRanks<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Technology stocks led the gains in the Dow, with Nvidia rising 3.26% ahead of its earnings report on Wednesday. This came despite recent warnings that the company could face a $5.5 billion revenue hit due to potential restrictions on AI chip exports to China. Still, traders remain <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/what-analysts-think-of-nvidia-stock-ahead-of-earnings-11740324\" target=\"_blank\">bullish<\/a>, expecting Nvidia to post record revenues that beat expectations.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- .cn-block-related-link --><\/p>\n<p>Apple was also up 2.43%, despite Trump\u2019s earlier threats to impose a 25% tariff on its smartphones. Trump later explained that this would also <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/may\/23\/donald-trump-threatens-25-percent-tariff-iphones-not-made-in-us\" target=\"_blank\">apply to Samsung<\/a>, Apple\u2019s main competitor in the mobile market.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Trump, EU, hopeful about trade talks<\/h2>\n<p>The broader rally in equities was driven by optimism on the trade front. President Trump softened his stance on tariffs and praised the EU for agreeing to fast-track trade negotiations with the United States. The bloc is aiming to avoid 50% mutual tariffs, which Trump has delayed until July 9.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis is a positive event, and I hope that they will, FINALLY, like my same demand to China, open up the European Nations for Trade with the United States of America,\u201d Trump <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TrumpDailyPosts\/status\/1927356025264353722\" target=\"_blank\">posted<\/a> on Tuesday. \u201cThey will BOTH be very happy, and successful, if they do!!!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The negotiations, led on the EU\u2019s side by trade chief Maro\u0161 \u0160ef\u010dovi\u010d, will <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/eu-focus-critical-sectors-bid-081132717.html\" target=\"_blank\">focus<\/a> on key areas such as semiconductors, automobiles, pharmaceuticals, and aluminum. In parallel, the EU and the U.S. will also tackle tariffs and non-tariff barriers.
