On Monday, September 15, at BaseCamp 2025 in Stowe, Vermont, Head of Base Jesse Pollak and the project team announced that the project is exploring the launch of its own network token.<\/p>\n<p>The <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.base.org\/the-state-of-base-at-basecamp-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">move<\/a> could reshape Base from a utility chain into a full ecosystem, enabling developers to tap its capabilities directly. The chain, according to the team, will operate on the principles of operability and openness. In that light, the Base team also announced an open-source bridge between Base and Solana (SOL).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWe believe Base should be a bridge, not an island. We can\u2019t bring the world onchain if everyone is building separate, siloed ecosystems. We want Base to be a hub for the entire onchain economy,\u201d Base team. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>    <!-- .cn-block-related-link --><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Base will continue to build on Ethereum<\/h2>\n<p>Despite the major shift in philosophy, the team stressed that they will \u201cremain deeply committed to Ethereum\u201d (ETH). This signals that there are no plans to make Base a layer-1 chain. The team also stressed that they will work with U.S. regulators and legislators to make sure that the chain complies with all regulations. <\/p>\n<p>Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase, also confirmed the move, stating that it could help boost decentralization.
